The beaches of Pula are among the most popular in southern Sardinia. Shallow, wide, gently sloping and covered with extremely fine and light sand, they are perfect for swimming holidays with children or simply for sunbathing. In the clear water around picturesque rocks, snorkelling and scuba diving explore a lush underwater world. A little further on, in the bay of Nora, scenically situated on a headland, are the ruins of a Phoenician city founded around the 8th century BC and subsequently settled by the Romans. On calm days, you can even make out the outlines of sunken parts of the city under the water from the shore. In between are the turquoise dream beaches of Fox'e Sali, Cala Ostia or La Spiaggia Campumatta with their light-coloured dunes, pines and eucalyptus trees. Exciting insights into the rich history of the region are provided by the archaeological museum "Giovanni Patroni" in the village of Pula. Not far from the excavation site begins the Nora Lagoon, a 55-hectare natural oasis that provides a protected space for rare fish and water birds and houses a small aquarium and a rescue centre for whales and sea turtles.
