Magadino and the other villages on the left side of the lake, in Gambarogno, have largely preserved their Ticino identity. The terrain rises quite steeply in the south towards the massif of Monte Tamaro, giving a beautiful view of Locarnese. The Bolle di Magadino, between the mouth of the Verzasca and Magadino rivers, is a landscape of recognised natural value. From the shores of the Gambarogno, scheduled boats go to Locarno, Ascona, the Brissago Islands and other destinations on Lake Maggiore. Lugano, Locarno and Bellinzona, the Ticino triumvirate of cities, can be reached just as quickly from Gambarogno as the nearby Italian market town of Luino.
