Up until 1487, the Moors occupied Málaga, before them were the Romans, the Carthaginians and even the Phoenicians who had already established the first settlement there in the 8th century BC. The ancient city situated on the coastal plain where the Guadalmedina and Guadalhorce rivers converge is incredibly rich in historical treasures. As the provincial capital in the middle of the Costa del Sol, Málaga has also got lots to offer bathing enthusiasts. The fabulous beaches of Misericordia, Malagueta, Caleta, Carvajal, Maro are located in the vicinity and Torremolinos or Marbella with their lively night life are not far. Also worth seeing is the charming mountain scenery in the Sierra de las Nieves or Sierra de Tejeja, the El Torcal nature park, Chorro canyon and the towns of Ronda and Antequera. You can easily reach Granada and discover its famous Alhambra, for a day-trip from Malaga.
